The best a brunette can do when picking colors for her makeup or wardrobe is to ensure that they harmonize with the color of her hair. If you are a brunette:
Throw away pink lipstick
Your colors are the rich bright ones such as terracotta, cinnamon and red. Pinks, especially pale pinks, will get lost in the background of your dark hair. You need darker, fuller colors to highlight your lips.
Those among you who like to experiment can try out the darker nuances of pink, but in this case the eyes also need to be highlighted with eyeliner and mascara to avoid blurring your other features by drawing too much attention to the lips.
You’ve got to love bronze
Pink lipstick can give you a washed-out look and so can pale blush. The blush nuances best for you are the bronze ones. They will make your face look natural and fresh and will perfectly highlight your cheekbones. The only thing you need to worry about is using too much of it.
Braver brunettes may wish to try excessive highlighting. Apply bronze blush under the cheekbone and use coral or peach nuances for the protruding part of the bone. Above the cheekbone apply a pale but shiny color and bring it toward the temples. If you decide on this method refrain from using lipstick and apply just a small amount of eye-shadows.
Accentuate the eyes
A great choice for dark-haired women is the combination of dramatic eye makeup with plain and natural lips and cheeks. Brunettes with a light eye color can use warm tones to create a look as natural as possible which would not detract attention from the eyes. Dark-eyed ladies can afford a bolder color such as blue or purple, which will highlight the eyes. If you have a lighter skin complexion use brown or dark brown mascara. This will soften your features. If your skin is darker, black or dark blue mascara will make your eyes stand out.
Foundation must be appropriate for your complexion
The choice of foundation is very important regardless of your hair color. It can drastically change your image, unfortunately for the worse as well as for the better. Before purchasing foundation ask a makeup consultant for assistance. Try out and compare different colors and brands. You must never look as if you’re wearing a mask.
Do not be afraid to experiment
Style and fashion magazines continuously give advice on what is good for you and what is not. The simple truth is that only you can be the judge of whether you like yourself or not. You are the person who sets the limits. Use the information in magazines as a source of ideas rather than fashion dogma. Experiment at home – this is the best way to find out what looks good on you. If you like the style you have created take it outside and don’t worry if it doesn’t correspond to the standard guidelines for your type.
