Herbs have toning, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-irritating and disinfecting properties. When using herbs, it is necessary to know the personal properties of each, so that you can choose the appropriate herb for the situation. Below is a list of the herbs, most widely used in cosmetic procedures:
Rose petals – they are used for toning, smoothing and calming all skin types.
Calendula – it has calming, anti-inflammatory, anti-seborrheic and disinfecting properties. It also enhances the healing mechanisms. It is good for all skin types, mainly for oily skin.
St. John’s wort – it cleanses, lightens and refreshes the skin. It also has toning and healing properties. It is good for oily, tough and impure skin.
Dill – it smoothes dry, rough, flaky skin.
Parsley – it has an anti-inflammatory, calming effect. It also improves blood circulation and is good for sensitive skin prone to irritation.
Peppermint – it has a tightening effect. It benefits oily, impure skin with enlarged pores.
Thyme – it tightens and cleans the pores, regulates sebum secretion and is good for impure or inflamed skin.
Lemon balm – it refreshes aging, saggy and lifeless skin.
Chamomile – lightens, cleanses and calms all types of skin. Also has an anti-inflammatory effect.
Linden – improves skin metabolism, cleanses the skin, releasing it from toxic by-products of metabolism through sweating. It is good for all skin types, especially in combination with chamomile.
Horsetail – closes and tightens the pores. Useful against comedones, rough patches and eczemas.
Herbs are mostly used in the form of an herbal brew. In order to make it, take a handful (or 2 teabags) of the herb and cover with one cup of boiling water. Cover and let brew for 10 minutes. Dip a soft cloth or towel in the hot liquid, wring out and cover face for 5-6 minutes. Dip another cloth or towel in icy-cold water and spread on face for 3-4 minutes. Repeat this procedure three times. It will drive away fatigue and make your face fresh, pink and a little puffed.
Do not perform this procedure if you are suffering from redness, inflammation, irrigative, dry or sensitive skin. For such skin conditions, the recommendation is for cool herbal compresses, which will calm, refresh and moisturize the skin.
