Male skin care

The most important thing about skin care a man should know is that male skin is different from female skin.
Differences
Compared to female skin, male skin is denser in structure, thicker, oilier and with more elasticity. Because of this it is slower to show signs of aging, but once they appear they are more visible and harder to treat. Also, because of the larger number of sebaceous glands, male skin is more prone to rashes and inflammation.
A few words about shaving
Even a procedure as important and necessary as shaving must be done in the utmost comfort. This is why it should be done immediately following a shower when the skin is softened and moistened by the hot water vapors. This also makes shaving itself easier. If you are using an electrical razor, after shaving treat the skin with a special disinfecting, soothing gel.
If you value safety in shaving, using gel or foam for your skin type is a must. If you have dry or sensitive skin, choose foam instead of gel. It softens the hairs, eases shaving and prevents irritation. If your skin is oily or normal, go for the cleansing, revitalizing gel.
Facial care
Cleansing
Because of the great activity of the sebaceous and sweat glands of the skin, blackheads (a.k.a. comedones) may appear on your face. To avoid comedone formation, it is recommended to cleanse your face at least twice a day – morning and evening. Experts say it is best to use a soft cleansing product, foam or gel, containing extracts of marine plant which moisturize the skin, and also zinc and clay, which efficiently clean the pores and remove the oily shine. Do not use soap, because it dries the skin, making it flaky and quicker to age.
It is also recommended that once or twice weekly a deep cleansing be done with a scrub containing algae and menthol crystals. This will remove blackheads, cleanse clogged pores and peel away the layer of dead cells, making the skin fresh and smooth. An interesting side effect is that scrub delays the growing back of hair after shaving, improves blood circulation and gives the face a healthier look.
Toning
After cleansing, facial skin needs to be toned. Here it is important to remember that male skin can be up to 60% oilier than female skin. This is why most skin care products designed for men are alcohol-based. Alcohol, however, dries every type of skin, destroying its protective barrier, which is why it is not recommended. Use a moisturizing tonic with softening and toning effects instead of one containing alcohol. Dab a cotton ball in the tonic of your choice and apply it to the face, gently, without pressure, avoiding the eye area. Tonic prepares the skin for lotion application.
Nourishing, moisturizing and protection
To decrease the appearance of wrinkles and to protect the skin from the aggressive influence of the environment, after toning, apply moisturizing or nourishing lotion according to the needs of your skin. Use your fingertips to gently rub lotion into the skin. If your skin is oily or mixed type, use a light moisturizing lotion. If your skin is dry, you can use thicker products with a nourishing effect, containing a vitamin and mineral complex.
After the age of 30, regular skin care products are not enough. Experts recommend the use of specially designed rejuvenating lines of products, which effectively counteract wrinkle formation and aging of the skin. Such products should contain large amounts of vitamins A and D, as well as hyaluronic acid, which improves the elasticity of the skin.
